The 110th Cavalry Regiment Massachusetts National Guard was formed in 1921 from the
1st Squadron of Cavalry. During World War One that unit was combined with the 1st
Vermont and used to form two elements of Yankee Division:

The 102nd Machine Gun Battalion

The 26th Headquarters Company


In 1940 the unit was redesignated the 180th Field Artillery Regiment. The regiment was
used to form five units during the World War Two:

The 180th Field Artillery Battalion an element of Yankee Division.

The 626th Tank Destroyer Battalion an element of Yankee Division that was detached and
deactivated in 1943.

The 221st Field Artillery Battalion an element of Americal Division.

The 247th Field Artillery Battalion, also an element of the Americal Division.

The Americal Division Band was formed from the 110th Cavalry Band.

In 1959 the 2nd Squadron 110th Cavalry was formed, in 1963 it was renamed the 26th
Cavalry. In 1988 the squadron was again named the 110th Cavalry Regiment
Massachusetts Army National Guard it was disbanded in 1996.
